It is made with the same materials (wooden poles of Venice encased in translucent resin like lagoon water) but with a completely different effect.

For the making of FishEye EXCL. alcarol has exaggerated the reaction of the resin to emphasize the formation of internal cracks like those of a frozen lagoon and also frozen air bubbles released from the cavities that make this wood so unique all over the world.

The geo prefix typically indicates topics of or relating to our planet Earth, and this project aims to illustrate – through abstraction – how similar the geomorphologies of other planets can be. Finally surprising us with an unexpected softness, a completely human pleasure.

The shapes of the reliefs derive from three-dimensional files of some areas of the Italian Alps, made more abstract and mixed with other planetary geologies.

The vertical sides are an abstract representation of typical geological stratigraphies of the solar system planets, where the top surface is soft Velvet, the lower part is recycled soft polyurethane foam, covered with a thin layer of soft rubber mixed with stone powder and real soils which make the colors and textures always unique and completely organic.

The natural wood surface is not covered by resin on the section planes since alcarol always use a selective wood coating with a matt natural effect.

For this collection alcarol recovered some discarded logs from the undergrowth of the Italian Dolomite mountains; then cuts planks, preserving the natural bark surface and live edges with their mosses and lichens, which are encased in a special resin resembling the water that generated their life, while the section planes remain uncovered to give the possibility to appreciate warmth and matt porosity from natural wood.
The project engages with the alcarol concept of environmental cross-section. By filling the gaps with resin, alcarol achieves a new functionality freezing time at the end of the material’s cycle and giving it a new life before it dissolves into the ecosystem.Woodpile _ Shelving is a minimal self-supporting structure made of three SOLID WOOD planks with live mossy edges, preserved in EXTRACLEAR RESIN resembling the water that generated their life.
