Angeletti & Ruzza designed Cylinda, a table lamp formed from two cylinders of different dimensions and thicknesses. The first, which is slimmer and taller, becomes the base supporting the second unit, a large, slender disc that forms the light-shade, with an LED light source shining beneath it. In the words of the designers, the essential forms of this design aim: “To eliminate, not to add anything that is not absolutely necessary: this was the mantra guiding the design of the lamp; with its quiet presence, it succeeds in creating a positive atmosphere that can transform everyday routine into everyday poetics.”

Cylinda captures the attention with its strong, poetic presence, maintaining a minimalist sophistication with its clean outlines and use of geometric shapes, fully reflecting the Oluce DNA.

In the monochrome anthracite version, Cylinda confirms its refined quality, highlighting the elegance of the lines, while in the two-colour version, a brushed gold disc is supported on the anthracite base, a decorative touch that succeeds in discreetly embellishing the object.

A tribute to the masters of lighting, names that have contributed to the history of design and of Oluce itself: this year the company presents the reissue of a product from the 50s by Ostuni and Forti.

The lamp 1953 designed, by Ostuni e Forti, has two models, floor and table, varying in proportion and size but identical in their design which shifts the whole lampshade section from the centre to the side. A range that elegantly recalls the style of those years, such as the use of a shade in the classic cylindrical shape and the fine contrast of the satin gold – stem and shade’s interior – against the black – the exterior of the shade, the base and the stem grip.

Decorative but with a clean, linear design, 1953 is striking in its modernity, attesting to Oluce’s instinct to create objects capable of transcending fashions and eras.

Coupé originated in 1967 from the creative intuition of Joe Colombo, who initially designed it as a variation on a lamp already in the company’s collection, the Spider, retaining its base and stem. Starting from these bold, simple features – the base, the stem and the adjustable cover serving as a shade – the designer created one of Oluce‘s best-known families.
This year, having offered the Coupé in a variety of different models and finishes over the years, Oluce is expanding the family with the introduction of Mini Coupé, a smaller scale version of the table lamp, available in a stunning new contemporary range of colours. At 34 cm in height and in brand new colours, the Mini Coupé wittily maintains all the vigour common to Joe Colombo’s designs of the 60s, a time when design aimed to fulfil a function while also making an aesthetic statement, when experimentation with new materials, use of colour, movement, and the desire to break new ground were the guiding lights of his creations.
The Mini Coupé, with its chrome stem and semi-cylindrical shade, retains the distinctive profile and bold character which define the Coupé collection and which have always made it an exceptionally modern lighting range, now even more complete.

As a testament to its international success, it won the International Design Award from the American Institute of Interior Designers in Chicago the year after its creation and is included in the permanent collection of both the MoMA in New York and the Neue Sammlung Museum in Munich.

By means of the Switch lamp, the Japanese designer Nendo, revisits the shape of the classic abat-jour by renewing both its materials and its function. The archetypal shape of the cylindrical lampshade is transformed by using metal while its function as a diffuser is combined with that of a ‘switch’, hence its name. In fact, the lamp is switched on and off by turning the sheet metal lampshade, inextricably blending shape and function, aesthetics and functionality.
